Manipur - A Jeweled Land

An exotic landscape, Manipur literally means a 'jeweled city' that rightly justifies the small and picturesque. Lohtak Lake

The spectacular lake is considered as one of the largest freshwater lakes of northeast India. It is also known as a floating lake due to various heterogeneous species of vegetable, soil and organic matters such as ‘Phumdis’ occupying about two-third area of the lake. Spread over an area of 286 sq km, the lake is encircled with shallow waters, which lead on to marsh land. The water of the lake also serves as the source for drinking water, irrigation and hydropower generation.

Jorebangla Temple

The elegant temple is boasts of mesmerizing terracotta relief artwork on its walls. It was built in 1655 AD by King Raghunath Singh Dev II. The walls and the rooms are set with a number of terracotta panels. The curved designs of the Royal lifestyle are representing the epic, historical scenes from the battles etc.

Rasmancha

It is one of the oldest pyramidal tower shaped, brick temple. Rasmancha is encircled with turrets, in the shaped of huts which were an idea of King Bir Himbira in 17 century. The opulent temple was built in a way to accommodate the deities the people brought in the season of festivals.

Khwairamband Bazaar

Khwairamband Bazaar is unique as it has only women shopkeeper. It is also known as Mother’s market, Nupi Keithel, and Ima Bazaar. It consists of around 3000 shops, which are owned by Manipuri women. The shops of the bazaar sell every kind of products such as vegetables, fish, lotus, oranges flavoured honey, hand-woven shawls, household utensils, beautiful cane baskets and furniture. Apart from this, the 'Imas' means the women shopkeepers wearing colourful and traditional Manipuri attires.

Keibul Lamjao National Park

Located in Bishnupur district and spread over an area of 40 sq km, Keibul Lamjao National Park is recognized for being the only Floating National Park in the world. This semi-evergreen forest encompasses of wetland, aquatic and terrestrial atmosphere. The natural park is consist of various endangered species like hog deer, cobra, python, Indian civet cat, Sangai and common otter. As well as, the park consists of aquatic plants such as Bengalensis, Zizania latifolia. Cynodon dactylon and Alpinia galanga.

Shirui Kashung Peak

Perched at an elevation of 2835m above sea level, Shirui Kashung Peak is also recognized as Shirui Lily flowers that blossoms here between the months of May and June. It is one of the famous peaks for a majority of rivers are originated from the slopes of the peak. It is a popular tourist attraction and just 18 km away from Ukhrul lying to the east of the headquarters. Due to the presence of famous Shirui Lily allures many botanists from all over the world.
