Itanagar

Tawang

The hilly region still follows its age-old traditions and its wonderful rich cultural heritage. Tawang sees a huge population of the Monpa Tribes and also makes a prominent place of the Buddhist population. It is a naturally beautiful hill station which is best for trekking and hiking activities. One of the popular Monasteries here is the Golden Namgyal Monastery, which was built hundreds of years ago.

Bomdila

Another beautiful destination of Arunachal, Bomdila sits perfectly among picturesque surroundings and green mountains which are often sprinkled with snow. The landscapes available here are magical and the presence of apple groves, monasteries, warm people, and pleasant weather makes it a place you cannot miss to visit. This terrain is perfectly apt for trekking and hiking expeditions.

Bhalukpong / Tipi

It is a beautiful place which is rich in its green nature and beautiful orchids. It is an excellent orchidarium which has around 300 species of flora and fauna. The main attraction of the place is the Waterfalls, Fresh Forest, wonderful botanical variety, and also provides a spot for adventures like white river rafting and angling.

Malinithan

It is an important archaeologist site which has ruins of a Hindu temple of the early medieval period. The Aryans are associated with the building of this temple and Arunachal Tourism provides huge stress on this important site as it is a popular pilgrimage site. It also has Akashi Ganga waterfalls, exotic view of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries.

Ziro

It is another beautiful location situated on the Apatani Plateau. Its tribal influence and beautiful landscapes make it a place which is flocked by tourist regularly. Some locations like Tarin, a high altitude based fish farm, the pine groves and the artistic craft centre here are some very popular here. The sunrise view from the hilltop here is another magical experience.

Pashighat City

It is a place which is a great example of how beautiful, nature can sometimes be. Its beauty is sure to have a great influence on you and its location is such that it is sometimes called the 'Gateway to Arunachal Pradesh' also. The beautiful location is the best place for photography and the river Brahmaputra from here meanders into Tibet.

Tawang Monastery

The Buddhist sect of Mahayana is of great influence here and so Buddhism flourishes hugely here. The famous Tawang Monastery is also known as the Golden Namgyal Lhatse'. It is also associated with the birth of the 6th Dalai Lama. Its positioning is very beautiful amidst the Oak, pine, rhododendron trees and provides striking views of the mountain valleys that is sure to enthral the travelers.

Bomdila Monastery

Situated near the Tibetan border is the Bomdila Monastery which is quite new and the largest Monastery here. Also known as "The Gelugpa Gompa" the monastery is surrounded by beautiful snow capped mountains and refreshing orchids of apples. In short, a beautiful monastery situated with an even more beautiful backdrop. There's craft centre here where you can buy woollen rugs and traditional carpets as a souvenir.

Urgelling Monastery

It is a beautiful Monastery located in between the Himalayas and the Tawang Chu valley. The popular Urgelling monastery has great significance to the Mahayana Buddhists and is also a great pilgrimage site for followers who come here for the peaceful ambience. It also homes several young monks who study the culture and its practices.


How to Reach

By Air : Tezpur airport in Assam is the nearest airport, which is almost 260 km far and around 4hours drive. You can catch direct flights to major Indian cities from Guwahati Airport too. The availability of taxis and bus services going towards the state are also well arranged.

By Rail : The nearest Airport is around 43 km away from the state capital Itanagar. Harmuti train station (Assam) is the nearest station connecting Arunachal Pradesh to other major cities of India.

By Road : The state is easily reachable by road from all prime cities and nearby states. There is a sufficient number of inter-bus services available from all major towns of Arunachal Pradesh to Meghalaya (around 790 km), Assam (560 km) and Nagaland (456 km).


Best Time to Visit : The best time for Arunachal Pradesh travel is from October to April.
